'WE CARE' CONCERT TO RAISE FUNDS FOR DROUGHT APPEAL

A special concert is being held to raise monies for farming families in need, as part of the “RU Aware, We Care” New England and Northwest Drought Appeal.

The concert will feature Lee Kernaghan, along with some of Australia’s best-known country music stars including Ashleigh Dallas, Dale Duncan, Lyn Bowtell, The Crosby Sisters, Marie Hodson, Ryan Morris, Splashpool, Pixie Jenkins, John Krsulja and more great artists.

Well below average rainfall and widespread drought across the New England Northwest Region is taking its toll and according to Mayor Col Murray, there are many farmers in need of help. “Aussie farmers are the backbone of our country and they work tirelessly to put food on our tables. However, with the lack of rain and ongoing drought, they are telling us that times are tough. Many have sold off their breeding stock and are hand feeding. Money is getting tight and debts are mounting.

“This concert is a great opportunity for the community to show our farming families they care. Anyone attending the concert, or donating to the appeal in other ways, can feel confident in knowing that all monies raised will go directly to farming families in need. We are grateful to have the assistance of the Salvation Army and the CWA to ensure this happens as quickly as possible.”

Rod Laing, CEO, Wests Entertainment Group says the organisation is pleased to contribute to the New England and Northwest Drought Appeal. “We have a long and proud history of country music at our venues here in Tamworth and we are happy to be able to host this very worthwhile concert and to give back to farming families who are doing it tough in these challenging times.

“We would like to extend our thanks to all of the musicians, artists and volunteers who have given their time and talents to make this concert a success.”

The concert will take place at 1pm on Sunday 22 July, at West Tamworth League Club. Limited tickets are available for purchase for $25 at www.wtlc.com.au or at the club.

Farmers experiencing hardship should contact the Tamworth Salvation Army by text on 0408 990 883, via email at chaplaincysupport@aue.salvationarmy.org, or in person at the Tamworth Corps.

“RU Aware, We Care” is a joint initiative of 88.9FM and Tamworth Regional Council with the support of Wests Entertainment Group, Salvation Army, CWA, Tamworth Business Chamber and the NSW Farmers Association. More information is available at www.ruawarewecare.com.au
